Taganga is a small fishing villiage right out side of Santa Marta, Colombia. Its not a big tourist destination but in high season it can sure look like it with the streets crowded with backpackers and Colombians who come here for a good time on a budget. Taganga has also been a stop over for many travelers who are either hiking up to see the Lost City, traveling to Tayrona park, or to Palomino up the northern coast of Colombia. This small beach village is not for everyone, but there is something mystical about it.
A traveler can easily get stuck here for days after feeling the vibes you get from being close to the beach, a small nightlife where backpackers and locals go for a good time, and the hospitality of the people. Taganga is not known for beautiful beaches, though the ones there have plenty of character and somewhere to eat fresh fish and drink tropical juices crush with ice.
Being able to spend a few days here, I found out the true gem of this place is not the beaches but the people. The Tagangeros from the looks are very happy and humble people even though they don’t seem to have much. Majority of their hard working income comes from fishing and tourism, from the locals I spoken to it seems those are the only two sources of income. There are plenty of things to see and travel to nearby if you are planning to make a stop here, also I reccomend Divanga Bed & Breakfast hostel to stay at, they have private rooms as low as $25. These photos below I hope to illustrate the life in Taganga from a tourist point of view looking in. The pictures below were taken with a Nikon Coolpixa camera, 28mm with no zooom.
