During this week’s fashion week many of the designers clearly had 1950s in mind as their muse. Designers ranging from Patrick Grant’s take on the Cuban collar to Louis Vuitton fifties vibe shirts.
The 1950‘s “Ivy league” or “Preppy “looks was showcased by a few designers such as Dior, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein , ranging from cardigan sweaters to white denim and Chinos, paired with classic Navy Shirts and slip-ons.
The 50s were known for men wearing hats all the time; a 1950s man was not completely dressed unless a hat adorned his head. It is consider the golden age for men’s hats, with so many splashes of color and styles making its way to the mainstream, from Panama hats, Straw Boaters and Fedoras too. So keep look out for that 2016 accessory to compliment your next outfit.
Also so many designers take on the wider-legged trousers look, accompanied by the 50’s shirts. The hair styles too were homage to the 1950’s. Pomades with its shiny, slick and neat look were on display, as well as the pompadour made famous by James Dean with its signature greased look in the days of youthful rebellion. The TV show happy days was a showcase for some the styles that will be seen in 2016; ranging from the more youthful Converse All Stars, leather jackets, and blue jeans with rolled cuffs, neck tied bandanas .
Closing notes on 2016 beside the 1950 inspired themes prevalent, floral theme shirts for men by Gucci and Duckie Brown were also seen on the runaway to an extent. One highlights of 2016 was the Bomber jacket, several designers took their take on the classic bomber jacket. From Burberry, Tomas Maier to Diesel all had Bomber Jackets in full force.
